What do you know about psychedelics being used as medicine?

The mainstream acceptance of Psilocybin as a wellness tool is steadily growing. Psilocybin, the active compound in "magic mushrooms" is emerging as a powerful tool in the wellness landscape, backed by scientific research

Having trained last year to deliver psychedelic-assisted therapies, I wanted to share more info about it.

Mental Health benefits: Psilocybin has shown promise in alleviating symptoms of depression + anxiety. A 2020 study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that patients w depression who received psilocybin therapy experienced rapid & significant improvements, with some reporting benefits lasting up to a year. By reducing activity in the brain's default mode network (DMN), psilocybin helps quiet self-referential thoughts, reducing rumination and stress.

Cognitive effects + Neuroplasticity: Psilocybin enhances cognitive flexibility by increasing connectivity between different brain regions, making it easier to shift perspectives & approach problems from novel angles. Research from Johns Hopkins University supports psilocybin's effect on neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to reorganize + rewire itself by forming new neural connections

Enhanced Creativity & Openness: Psilocybin promotes a state of "hyper-connectedness" in the brain, allowing for freer thought processes & dissolution of entrenched mental boundaries. This fosters divergent thinking, a core component of creativity. Also, psilocybin is associated with increased "trait openness" linked to open-mindedness, curiosity &willingness to explore new perspectives.

Lastly, Psilocybin has been associated with significant increases in life satisfaction & happiness even months after use. A 2011 study found that participants who had a single, guided psilocybin experience reported enduring improvements in well-being

With both scientific evidence & social proof supporting its use therapeutically, psilocybin may be a game-changer in the mental health and wellbeing space suggestive of its potential in unlocking a balanced, resilient, and thriving mindset
